This research is concerned with the mechanism of cyanide intoxication and its antagonism by both prophylactic and therapeutic methods. These studies involved investigation of various enzymes associated with cyanide toxicity and biotransformation as well as development of conceptually new antidotes to prevent casualties should cyanide be employed as a chemical weapon during wartime. The feasibility and efficacy of present cyanide antidotes for front line battlefield use were studied and evaluated.
