Research Objectives were accumulate evidence for collective and coherent effects in the interaction of optical and near-optical radiation with matter, and to develop a theoretical understanding of these effects that is adequate for predictive modeling. The focus of this effort was on continuum transitions such as atomic ionization, molecular dissociation and broadband transitions in solids, where coherence phenomena are not commonly found.
