Abstract:

The induced resonance electron cyclotron IREC maser operates at Doppler unshifted frequencies omega gamma-sq Omega sub 0gamma, were gamma is the relativistic factor and Omega sub 0 is the cyclotron frequency. The frequency can be further increased by operation at higher cyclotron harmonics. A set of fast-time averaged nonlinear equations of motion is derived for the particle motion near an arbitrary harmonic. Start-up currents are computed from the linear efficiency. The nonlinear efficiency is studied numerically for the first few harmonics. Minimization of the detrimental effects due to pitch angle and energy spread are investigated by selecting the optimum angle between the beam and the resonator. Keywords Electron Cyclotron maser.
