The absorption of radiation at optical wavelengths 3 cm to 0.3 micrometersin a plasma aerosol is examined. In particular, the mean free path is plotted as a function of wavelength for temperatures appropriate to laser-induced gas breakdown. Various formulae, one assumption used in their derivations, and their regions of validity are discussed.
