Abstract:
Recent changes in military retirement will reduce benefits to members entering service after July 31, 1986. These changes may have effects on Navy tactical pilot retention. This thesis seeks to measure retention effects resulting from retirement revision. A binary-response logistic-regression model was applied to cross-sectional data obtained from randomly selected Navy tactical aviators to evaluate possible determinants of their retention choice behavior. This data analysis suggests that the Military Retirement Act of 1986 will contribute to a decrease in retention rates. Job security, tastes for military life, airline hiring rates, spouse employment, and pay were also found to be significantly 1 correlated with retention. Keywords Officer Retention. Theses.
