Inexpensive chlorides of titanium TiCl4, aluminum AlCl3 and vanadium Vcl4 were mixed and reacted with pure sodium in a Hurd Shaker. The resulting metal was analyzed for chemistry, homogeneity and morphology. Also investigated was the nature of the reaction. The resultant powder was irregularly shaped and had wide variations in chemistry. The reaction of chloride reduction also appears to be discontinuous.
