Abstract:

In exploring the use of the tactile system as a channel for data input, we must ask three fundamental questions 1 How much data can be transferred through the tactile system 2 How much information is needed for specific tasks which would be of use to the blind, such as navigation in an unfamiliar environment, or locating and picking up objects 3 What parameters of the vibratory tactile system and what form of signals and patterns presented to it are important in enabling the wearer of a VTA to obtain information about the environment from the data presented through the VTA
