Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine the Army Materiel Commands AMC program to standardize Army equipment, or to make it interoperable, with that of the other NATO forces. Data and information to accomplish study objectives were collected through the use of a consultant, questionnaires, visits to selected activities, and two workshop type seminars. Subsequent analysis indicated that although the US Army, and AMC, do have a management system to address standardizationinteroperability of equipment and operational methods, it is decentralized and needs improvement. The study concludes that DA and AMC must establish an active and effective management activity if the program is to succeed at any level. An AMC central management activity would focus on developing interoperable equipment.
