Abstract:
This study was initiated to determine feasibility of developing 6K and 10K Rough Terrain Fork Lift Trucks with a 45 miles per hour road capability. This would allow the RTFLTs to be self deployable, thus eliminating the trailering and towing requirement. Computer simulation was used to analyze the 6K and 10K RTFLTs performance, ride, and handling and to determine the major component requirements. Component suppliers were then contacted to determine component commercial availability and compatibility. Both the 6K and 10K RTFLTs are capable of being developed to go 45 mph without new component technology. The major vehicle components for both the 6K and 10K RTFLTs are available in commercial production today by at least one manufacturer. Minor component design changes requiring a year or less would be required by other manufacturers. Author
