Abstract:
A parametric study is being undertaken of the effects of extra low frequency ELF conductive electric fields on chicken tendon explant fibroplasia, collagen synthesis and oriented migration. Independent variables are pulse repetition rate, pulse duration, peak current density or electric field strength, explant orientation with respect to E field and donor chicken age. ELF pulsed electric fields with average current densities in the range of 0.18 to 5.7 micro Asq cm induced statistically significant alternations in fibroblast proliferation with a windowed response of peak stimulation of proliferation in the range of 0.4 to micro Asq cm, and suppression at higher current densities.
