Abstract:

The Final Report describes related COCHISE and FAKIR studies of 1 excited nitrogen reactions which can influence atmospheric molecular emission in the short to middle wave length infrared and 2 the phenomenology of ozone vibrational fluorescence in the long-wavelength infrared. COCHISE observations of the excitation of N0, C0, N20, and electronic states of N2 by energy transfer in discharge excited nitrogen are presented, and related FAKIR measurements of the kinetic behavior of metastable N and N2 are given. Other related FAKIR studies of the products of discharged N20 are discussed. Keywords Nitrous oxide, Nitrogen monoxide Carbon monoxide Oxygen Nitrogen Ozone Molecular dynamics Vibrational excitation Atmospheric backgrounds.
