The Battle of Laurel Hill is one of several battles that took place in and around Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia, between Grants Army of the Potomac and Lees Army of Northern Virginia during the period 7-20 May 1864. The study is based on historical accounts, and data extracted from Official Records and Regimental Histories of units involved. In addition to providing strategic, operational and tactical overviews of the Spotsylvania Campaign, this study focuses on the movements and confrontations between the Union Fifth Corps and the Confederate First Corps at Laurel Hill, and vividly contrasts the generalship styles and tactics employed by the various commanders.
