Abstract:

Studies were conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of nine methods for collecting macroinvertebrates associated with dikes, revetments, and sandbar habitats. Data were collected on the Lower Mississippi River between river miles 440 and 448. The nine methods evaluated included circular rock basket implants, rock samples, the push sled, the diaphragm pump, the electroshocker, articulated concrete matress ACM implants, ACM slabs, ACM blocks, and a modified Hess sampler. Some gear types were used to test diel variations in the macroinvertebrate communities while others were used to obtain information on community structure and seasonal variation at dike, revetment, and sandbar habitats.
