The report describes the results of a research program to simultaneously determine the mechanical and electrochemical process that occur within and near the tip of active stress corrosion and corrosion-fatigue cracks. Electrochemicalmechanical impedance analysis is one of the few techniques with this capability. Our approach was to make electrochemicalmechanical impedance measurements on HY80 steel in 3.5 wt NaCl solutions under corrosion-fatigue conditions. The data were then analyzed by means of an AC transmission line model to determine the distribution of electrochemical and mechanical states within the crack and at the crack tip.
