Abstract:

A solution for the electromagnetic coupling through an aperture in an arbitrarily shaped perfect conductor is obtained by the generalized network formulation for aperture problems in conjunction with a new method called the pseudo-image method. The theory developed is applied to a TM curved cylindrical surface with a narrow or a wide slot. The field in an aperture in a circular cylindrical surface is calculated by the pseudo-image method, by a method without a pseudo-image, and by a method in which only an electric current is used. The aperture field calculated by the pseudo-image method is the most accurate because it agrees best with a Fourier series solution.
