The IEEE Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference MELECON 85 is being held October 8, 9 and 10, 1985 at the Palace of Exhibitions and Congresses in Madrid, Spain. The papers included in these Proceedings represent the authors technical contributions presented at MELECON 85. They cover an extended technical program arranged in 45 sessions. New technologies are highlighted with links between theory and applications. This third Mediterranean Electrotechnical Conference covers topics in Bioengineering, Digital Signal Processing, Radiocommunications and Solar Energy, which are of interest to the Mediterranean countries. More than 370 papers will be presented in up to five parallel running sessions. This large response is divided over all major topics and the Proceedings will be presented in four volumes, one corresponding to each area. The majority of the papers comes from Mediterranean countries and covers subjects of special interest for the region, such as solar energy, wind power and computer applications for development. The technical Program includes important contributions in computer hardware, software and networks, signal processing, power systems, control theory and applications.
