Abstract:

Flexible Manufacturing Technology is a means to increase productivity for manufacturing environments in the middle ranges of production volume. It is effective for one of a kind and true mass production quantities. Volumes I through IV of this handbook help determine if a flexible machining systems FMS will be cost effective for a given application. These volumes explain the configuration and procurement of a FMS, and its impact on the existing organization. Volumes V and V-A of the handbook detail the computer programs for the FMS in the form of Users Guides for some 10 separate modules. Volume VI consists of two Case Studies documenting the use of the developed Decision Support software modules and related procedures for the design and evaluation of proposed and planned FMSs.
