This report describes the Department of Defenses efforts to manage hazardous waste generation, storage, and disposal at its installations in the United States. GAO made the review to determine if the Departments hazardous waste program compiled with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. In a draft of this report GAO proposed implementation of a policy to correct some of the deficiencies in compliance we identified. The Department has now adopted that policy and is working on developing implementing guidance for the services.
