Full scale maneuvering trials were conducted on a river towbarge flotilla on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the summer of 1985. The trials were conducted in order to obtain tow maneuvering performance data for comparison with tow tank and simulator generated data. Calibration runs, turning maneuvers, horizontal overshoot maneuvers, acceleration add deceleration maneuvers, and lateral motion maneuvers were performed for three different towbarge configurations. Water depth averaged 17 feet or - 2 feet 4.6 meters or - 0.6 meters during the trials and the water depth to draft ratio was a nominal 1.9. Measurments obtained during the trials included steering and flanking rudder angle, port and starboard shaft speed, tow heading, tow turning rate, relative wind velocity, and tow position. Keywords Towboat Barge MV Benyaurd, Horizontal Overshoot Acceleration and Deceleration Lateral motion.
