This report provides general guidance to Corps of Engineer Division and District personnel on the design and conduct of programs for monitoring chemical contaminants in reservoir waters, sediments, and biota. The report is organized based on eight areas of consideration in conducting a reservoir contaminant monitoring program a historical water quality concerns in Corps reservoirs, statutes relevant to reservoir management, and existing contaminant problems in Corps reservoirs b selection of variables to be monitored c design of the sampling program, including location and frequency of sampling and statistical considerations d sampling methods and quality assurance procedures e analytical methods f procedures for management of monitoring programs conducted under contract g management and processing data and h data interpretation, including statistical considerations and compliance with regulatory criteria and standards. It is emphasized that the general recommendations provided in the report must be tailored to the design, morphometry, and operation of a specific reservoir and the specific contaminant problems that are known or suspected to occur there.
