Abstract:

The Army Basic Skills Education Program BSEP needs materials to use in the Army Education Centers to instruct soldiers in the skills and knowledges that underlie their job task training. A potentially applicable technology, evaluated in this project, is the Spatial Data Management System SDMS. One version of SDMS has a low-cost configuration that integrates microprocessors, videodiscs, and instructional software into an instructional delivery system. Some features that determined the choice of SDMS for this application were 1 Simplicity, speed, and flexibility of operation 2 Private, non-threatening learning environment 3 Interactive movie component with student control of viewing perspective, level of detail, and action and 4 surrogate travel component with student control of the rate of advance and route of travel. The current project enhanced the SDMS instructional capabilities by recording and analyzing student responses and providing feedback.
