Abstract:
This report summarizes the published data relating to the littoral zone of Monterey Bay, California. An interpretation of morphodynamic processes of the area is developed using available information on the distribution, composition, and movement of littoral zone sediments tecture, composition, and supply rate of sediments from the three adjacent drainage basins the composition, distribution and retreat rates of the coastal cliffs and dunes and the geologic and tectonic history of the region. Because there is insufficient data to make a quantitative model, the report concludes with recommendations for future scientific studies that would lead to a more quantitative model that interested agencies could effectively use when dealing with coastal erosion problems within the bay.
