Abstract:

LFOSS-86 presents a snap shot in time of the Marine Corps operating forces and indicates the where, when, and the extent of changes that are anticipated from on-going research and development efforts. These changes are expressed in terms of their effects on the structure, missions, and equipment of the elements within the operating forces. The year 1986 is used as a baseline year and the results of RD efforts are projected through the year 1995. As a single reference document encompassing all of the components of the Fleet Marine Force, it is intended for use by commanders and staff personnel in planning, programming, budgeting and executing the organizational modifications associated with RD. It is also intended to make personnel aware of the dynamics of change throughout the Marine Corps. The major sections of the study address The Fleet Marine Force The Marine Division The Marine Aircraft Wing The Force Service Support Group and Specialized Force Units of the FMF. RD in the areas of command, control, and communications, increased firepower, and mobility represent the greatest potential for change in the Marine Corps.
