Abstract:

Solar energy, coming from a 5800K source, has thermodynamic value that is now becoming widely recognized for use in thermodynamic processes. For about ten years a small group at the Univ. of Minnesota has been conducting analytical and experimental studies which have the objective of using the suns thermodynamic potential, both for chemical processing and for solar energy storage. This paper summarizes the published work, describes ongoing as yet unpublished work, and suggests future work. The emphasis is on both shorter and long range applications to industrial processes.
