A prototype unit of an automated chemical warfare respirator quantitative fit test instrument Model 260 AS was designed, assembled and tested at Dynatech Corporation. The instrument is fully automated with no operator attention required during fit tests. Fit factors as high as 10 to the 6th power can be detected with this instrument which can be continuously operated for 24 hours. Corn oil was used as an aerosol challenge agent because of its safety features that have been documented by NIOSH. Human engineering considerations were implemented in the instruments design to assure safety of operation. Keywords Quantitative Fit Testing - Aerosol Instruments.
