Abstract:

The first experiment interfacing military personnel with the Artillery Control Environment ACE software was conducted 8 May - 10 June 83. This experiment demonstrated the feasibility of using the automated techniques of the Command Post Exercise Research Facility CPXRF, located at the Human Engineering Laboratory HEL, for fire support control experiments. The distribution of message service times was selected as one of the measures of performance MOP used to quantify the effects of message intensity and communication degradation on the Fire Support Teams Headquarters FIST HQ ability to perform fire support coordination. This report discusses the approach, verification, and preliminary results of modeling the distribution of FIST HQ service times of fire request FR messages and artillery target intelligence ATI messages.
