Abstract:
The MicroCAT Testing System is a microcomputer-based system for developing, administering, scoring, and analyzing computerized tests. It consists of four software subsystems the Development Subsystem, the Examination Subsystem, the Assessment Subsystem, and the Management Subsystem. The Development Subsystem contains four programs that provide tools for creating graphics and textual test items and for assembling them into complete computerized tests. The Examination Subsystem consists of a single, comprehensive program that administers and scores tests. It also records response data and test scores and can provide narrative reports of test results. The five programs of the Assessment Subsystem include tools for estimating item response theory parameters, performing conventional item and test analyses, pre- evaluating adaptive tests before they are administered, and evaluating criterion-related validity. The Management Subsystem is used to monitor a network of testing stations from a single proctoring station and to collect test data from these stations. Keywords Adaptive testing, authoring language, computerized testing, item banking, item calibration, item response theory, tailored testing, test analysis, test development.
