Abstract:

This volume of the Light Helicopter Family LHX Trade-Off Analysis TOA report contains the reports of two separate but related analyses. The first is the Force Structure analysis that identifies the foreseeable impact of the LHX on the Armys aircraft and manpower requirements. The study concludes that 1 The total LHX force structure requirements are a LHX-SCAT - 3,072 aircraft b LHX-Utility - 1,951 aircraft and 2 Depending on LHX candidate, maintenance personnel savings of 8-10 are achievable. The second analysis is of reliability, availability, and maintainabilitylogistics RAMLOG. The RAMLOG analysis intended to identify and quantify the minimum values of RAM and associated supportability goals that the LHX would need to achieve. The RAMLOG findingsconclusions included 1 Optimum unit size a 11 aircraft per attack helicopter battalion company and b 10 aircraft per aviation reconnaissance squadron troop. 2 5.7 to 5.8 aircraft flying hours per aircraft per day are the objective flight program 3 1.0-hour mean time to repair 4 3.6- maintenance man-hoursflight hour maintenance ratio 5 7.1 to 8.7 hours mean time between mission about failure minimum acceptable value.
