Abstract:

The purpose of this thesis is to provide a general overview of construction estimating and an insight to computer-aided estimating. Increased knowledge about computerized estimating and confidence in the computers potential use can result in providing more timely and accurate estimates. Although commputerized estimating is relatively new in the construction industry, its usage has been proven to be beneficial. The ability of the estimator to predict, as accurately as possible, the cost of construction today, correlates directly to the survival rate of a construction company. The thesis covers preliminary cost estimating and more detailed estimates, i.e. quantity surveys, lump sum and detailed unit cost estimates. The components of an estimate are reviewed and software are analyzed for the job of construction estimates.
