A data set, which contains nearly 162 hours of rain extinction coefficient is reviewed and analyzed. Measurements of extinction coefficient in the visible, 3-5 micrometers and 8-12 micrometers spectral region, during 105 hours are analyzed and discussed with respect to their variability as a function of rain rate. The data was compared and analyzed according to the EOSAEL model and the REITER model. The extinction coefficients which are predicted by these models are generally larger than those measured at the Rain II experiment. Also the size distribution does not agree with the Marshall - Palmer or Joss - Waldrogel models. Supplementary analysis and modeling are needed for the development of fare more quantitative models.
