Abstract:

A computer simulation was developed and pilot tested within the training environment at the U.S. Army Signal School, Fort Gordon, GA. The microprocessor-based simulation, containing two distinct fidelity levels, was designed to supplement technical training for troubleshooting tasks on a tactical telephone switchboard. The pilot evaluation involving 30 experimental users suggested that computer-based simulation can be effectively used to supplement practice with real equipment. Practice on the simulation, interspersed with real equipment practice, added a new and valuable dimension to the diagnostic training.
