Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine the current Air Force acquisition procedures for component breakout and determine what changes could be made to enhance this process. The study identified the two major hindrances of component breakout the lack of adequate engineering data and alternate manufacturing sources. The study also examined the AFMAC Air Force Management Analysis Group report on spare parts acquisition and public law for application of their recommendations and enactments for component breakout. The study concludes that no additional changes to component breakout procedures should be considered until after the impact and results of all of the AFMAG recommendations and the amendments of the public law have been reviewed and evaluated.
