A report is given on an overseas visit by Dr C.M. Scala of Australia to the U.S.A., U.K. and Switzerland for a period of thirty-two days departing Australia on 7 July 1984. The principal purposes of the visit were to 1 attend and present a paper at the Review of Progress in Quantitative NDE held at the University of California, San Diego 2 undertake updating visits to laboratories in the U.S. A. and U.K. to review current research in nondestructive evaluation NDE and to determine useful directions for future NDE research 3 coordinate progress in both the U.S.A. and Switzerland on the DSTO contract with Battelle Pacific Northwest Laboratories to monitor fatigue crack growth in a Mirage aircraft using acoustic emission AE.
