Abstract:

The Babbidge Reservoir Dam is a 38-foot-high earth embankment with a reinforced concrete corewall. There is a 36-foot-long concrete overflow spillway at the left abutment and a gatehouse at the crest which controls flow from the reservoir and from the Quarry Dam upstream. It is small in size with a high hazard potential. Significant economic loss and possible loss of more than a few lives could result from the event of a dam failure. With stoplogs, the spillway is capable of passing 9 of the test flood. The dam is in fair condition. Remedial measures should be undertaken by the owner. Keywords include Inspection, Dam safety, Connecticut River Basin, Roxbury, New Hampshire, and Roaring Brook.
