Abstract:

For years, administrative managers have been dealing with ever increasing official mail costs. The rise in postal rates 17 Feb 85 will undoubtedly make the problem even more difficult. Technological improvements in facsimile equipment in recent years may help to offset some of these postal costs, particularly those involving USPS express mail. This study examines the Base Information Transfer System BITS within Air University to determine the feasibility of using such equipment to reduce express mail costs. It concludes that the concept has potential for improved service and reduced postal expenditures however, because of the relatively low demand for mailing time-sensitive documents in the Command, it would not be cost effective to employ this concept in Air University at this time.
