Abstract:

The Fifth Quadrennial Review of Military Compensation has recommended an additional optional group insurance policy be made available to United States servicemen through the existing Servicemens Group Life Insurance system. To prevent pursuing a plan that would be significantly costly, this study examines existing group life insurance policies on the open market to determine a reasonable maximum cost for such a suggested insurance program. The study concludes that various plans vary widely in features and cost and that the average cost of five plans for flyers and six plans for nonflyers would be an appropriate measure unless the government underwrites the hazards of war and flying. In that case, the average of six plans for nonflyers would be the appropriate measure for both flyers and nonflyers.
