This thesis studied the software development environment for the School of Engineering, Air Force Institute of Technology AFIT. Its goal was to identify and solve the problems associated with software development performed by AFITs students. This was accomplished by completing the engineering lifecycle stages of problem identification, problem requirements analysis, search, decision, specification, design, and implementation. The specification for this new software development system, dubbed Software Analysis and Design Engineering Environment SANDEE, called for a phased development. The first phase called for a manual system of preprinted documentation forms with some computerization. The remaining three phases called for an expanding, interactive development environment using many state-of-the-art features. The specification also established standards for documentation and software development. Additional keywords Systems engineering systems approach.
