Abstract:

A comprehensive discussion is given of various simple models of explosively driven metal. These are compared with each other and with experiments, wherever possible, and their relation to more complicated models is discussed as needed. Certain types enable us to describe detailed space-time trajectories, while others are more suitable for asymptotic cases, such as estimating launch velocities. All are simple enough to use in initial design work where insight and suggestions for experiment are more important than precision.
