Abstract:
Distributed-parameter design techniques will become increasingly important to digital integrated circuits as the bit length and the circuit dimensions become comparable. Present trends toward gigabit data rates and wafer scale integration are moving the technology in this direction. The problem is further compounded by the fact that logic signals propagate more slowly on metal lines deposited on insulating layers on semiconductor substrates than they do on wire transmission lines. This paper discusses two aspects of distributed parameter circuit design the wave slowing effect and cross-talk between coupled transmission line modes. Keywords include Computing, Integrated Circuits, Digital Circuits, Design, Transmission Lines.
