Abstract:

Hexahydrobistrimethylphosphinetriboron1octahydrotriborate1-, B3H62PCH33B3H8- reacted with Lewis base in a 12 molar ratio in dichloromethane to give B4H8PCH33L, further reacted with the B3H8- salt, and B4H8PCH33 was produced. The B2H7- salt of the same cation gave B2H42PCH33 and the BH3 adducts of the reacting base when treated with NCH33 or PCH33. A mechanistic consideration was given to account for the difference between the reactions of the B3H8- and B2H7- salts.
