The present work is concerned with the investigation of the stress distribution near the tip of a uniformly moving crack in a brittle elastic solid. To this end, we employ the recently developed theory of nonlocal elasticity which incorporates important features of atomic lattice dynamics relevant to the study of microscopic defects, as well as macroscopic phenomena that fall within the domain of classical elasticity in the long wave-length limit.
