On October 2, 1981, the President announced his decision to cancel the M-X Multiple Protective Shelter MPS basing system. The Air Force was, at that time, working to prepare a Final Environmental Impact Statement FEIS for the MPS site selection process. This preliminary FEIS captures the environmental data and analysis in the document that was nearing completion when the President decided to deploy the M-X system in a different manner. Areas considered wer in Nevada, Utah, Texas, and New Mexico. Topics considered include Atmospheric resources in the existing environment and the future environment without the M-X Air quality model descriptions and inputs -- M-X-related emissions, Deployment area construction particulate and vehicular emissions, and Generator emissionsGaseous and Particulate, and Vehicular emissions on the highway from the operating base to the support community Meteorological data -- Terrain and predicted pollutant concentrations -- Construction-related particulate pollutant and operation-related gaseous, pollutant impacts, and Wind erosion impacts during operation and Visibility.
