Research was designed to evaluate the use of microcomputers for Navy training in a context that would permit the exploration of games for learning declarative information, in situ development of stand-alone computer-assisted instruction CAI systems, and techniques for developing automated tutors and student models. A data base of facts involving Soviet platforms and weapons systems was compiled and represented as a semantic network. The data base and a series of drill and practice games were implemented on a TERAK microcomputer and installed at the Fleet Combat Training Center, Pacific for tactical action officer training. Results of a formative evaluation of the training are described in this report.
