Review of existing rubber removal techniques was conducted. Evaluation of the effectiveness, cost, simplicity, safety, and environmental effects was ascertained when the reviewed techniques are applied solely to porous friction surfaces PFS. Indications are that high-pressure water removal techniques should be effective on PFS. It was also indicated that chemical removal methods may be proven effective if the asphaltic binder is sufficiently chemical-resistant. However, both techniques should be evaluated on pavement test sections comprised of PFS.
