Nonhuman primates were maintained for studies on the biomechanics of acceleration impact research by Navy personnel at Navy facilities. At one time or another during the course of this contract a total of 32 nonhuman primates were housed for the Navy. This included 13 chimpanzees Pan troglodytes and 19 rhesus monkeys Macaca mulatta. Twelve of the 13 chimpanzees were still available at the close of this contract. One of the chimpanzees died on January 24, 1983. The rhesus monkeys remained on the contract until they were transferred to Navy facilities on March 1, 1984.
