This report describes the results of testing and survey in portions of the Clinton Lake Project in northeastern Kansas. Field investigations were conducted during the summer of 1978 and the spring of 1979. Work involved the limited excavation of 19 previously located prehistoric sites and intensive survey of previously unsurveyed portions of the project. Archaeological components relating to the Archaic, Plains Woodland and Plains Village horizons were recognized. Analysis of prehistoric sites in the bottom-lands indicates that there was a marked preference for settlement on well drained soils. Originator-supplied keywords include Wakarusa River.
