Research on new methods of writing test questions for use in instructional systems is summarized in this final report. Three tasks were completed 1 experimental studies comparing several methods of transforming sentences from instructional materials into test questions, 2 a review of methods and an experimental study comparing the sentence-based questions with items written from learning objectives, and 3 the developement of a Handbook on Item Writing for Criterion-Referenced Tests.
