Mechanisms for the hydrolysis of paratoluenesulfonyl fluoride pTSF in the aqueous sodium hydroxide cyclohexane two-phase system have been elucidated for different phase transfer catalysts. The mechanism for the hydrolysis is composite it involves both interfacial and phase transfer catalysis. Experimental conditions determine the mechanisms which prevails. Author
