Estimates of sound absorption by means of magnetoelastic induction of conduction currents are given. Two examples are analyzed a Induction of eddy currents by means of magnetoelastic coupling between a viscoelastic absorber and a conducting ground plane, and b Induction of eddy currents in an electrically conducting viscoelastic material in a uniform magnetic field. We conclude that significant absorption occurs only if the average magnetic field energy density and the mechanical kinetic energy density given by the product of the mass density and the square of the speed of sound in the material are comparable magnitude.
