Abstract:

A numerical solution for the excess inductance of a microstrip discontinuity is obtained by the method of moments. This discontinuity is a via between two semi-infinite infinitesimally thin perfectly conducting strips. Above a ground plane, these strips are immersed in a medium that has constant permeability. Both strips run in the z-direction, but they are not necessarily collinear. The excess inductance is the inductance in excess of that which would result if the asymptotic inductance per unit length was assumed to exist up to z0 on the left-hand strip and beginning with z0 on the right-hand strip.
